Why are our emails bouncing?
Bounced emails happen for a number of reasons. If an email has bounced, consider whether one (or more) of the following might be the reason.
- Check the email address for spacing. Spacing is not allowed in email addresses.
- An underscore, period, or dash within the prefix of the email address must be followed by one or more letters or numbers.
- The last portion of the domain must be at least two characters. (For example, .org, .com or .cc)
- Check the email address to ensure there is an @ sign separating the email prefix and domain name.
- Is it possible that the family or member has changed their email address?
- Check the email address for general typo mistakes, particularly extra characters in the email address field. The email address fields within the ChMS are intended for email addresses only and emails will bounce if additional notes are included. (For example, an email will bounce if the email address field says [email protected] Home.)
- When listing multiple emails in the ChMS, the correct formatting is to separate the email addresses with semi-colons and without spaces. Separating the emails with spacing and/or other characters will result in bounced emails.
