How to create an account / log in to Connect

Creating an account to use Connect is free, simple and straightforward.

Creating your Connect account

1 - Enter your email address

Go to app.ecatholic.com and click on the Sign Up Now link; or navigate directly to app.ecatholic.com/register. Enter your email address, then click Next.

You’ll want to make sure you use an email address you can directly access. (After submitting your email, a code will be sent to that address which you will need to enter on the next screen to verify you own that email address.)

This is the email address you will use to log in to your account in the future.

2 - Verify your email address

Go to your email inbox and you will find an eCatholic Email Address Verification email. Open the message to retrieve the 8-digit verification code. This code is valid for 30 minutes. Enter the verification code into the Verification code field and click Next.

If you receive an Account already exists email instead of the Email Address Verification message, this means an account has already been created with the email you entered. To proceed, go to app.ecatholic.com/login and enter the email address there instead.

3 - Create a password

Enter the password you wish to use for your account. The password requirements will appear on the screen as you type.

4 - Finalize your account details

As a final step, enter your name and date of birth. Then your account setup will be complete and you will be logged in for the first time!

Logging in to your account

Once you've created an account, you can log in to your account by navigating to app.ecatholic.com/login. To log in you will need to enter:

  • Your email address
  • Your account password
  • A one-time Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) security code

1 - Enter your account email

To begin, go to app.ecatholic.com/login and enter the email that was used to create your account and click Next.

2 - Enter your password

Enter the password you created to use with your account. If you can't remember it, click Reset Password.

3 - Enter your Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) security code

As a final step, you will be prompted to enter a 2FA security code. The security code will be sent to you according to the 2FA method you have configured for your account, which can be either:

  • 2FA code is sent to your mobile number as a text message, or
  • You can retrieve the 2FA code from an authenticator app.

Streamlining your login experience

To make the login process easier on your trusted, personal devices, you may use the following features:

  1. Remember email: Use this checkbox if you'd like your email address to be automatically populated on the login screen so you don't have to manually enter it each time you log in.
  2. Remember this device: Use this checkbox to skip 2FA for 30 days so that you can log in with your email & password only. Do not select this if logging in from a public or shared device.

If you receive a Create an account to log in to eCatholic email after entering your email address on the login screen, this means an account does not exist for the email address you entered. If you are certain you have an account, try to log in using a different email address. If you do not have an account, go to app.ecatholic.com/register and create a new account with your email address.

Setting up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

To increase your account security, 2FA is required to access your account. This means you will be prompted to enter an additional one-time code to log in. You can choose to:

  1. Have the code sent to your mobile number via text message
  2. Retrieve the code from an authenticator app

Setting up 2FA via SMS text message

To set up 2FA via SMS text message, click the SMS Text Message button on the Enable 2FA security screen.

1 - Enter your mobile number - Enter a number at which you can reliably receive SMS text messages, then click Next.

2 - Verify your mobile number - You will then receive an 8-digit verification code via text message at the mobile number you just submitted. Enter the verification code on the next screen, then click Submit.

Setting up 2FA via authenticator app

To set up 2FA via authenticator app, click the Authenticator App button on the Enable 2FA security screen.

1 - Set up your authenticator app - Open your authenticator app (e.g., Google Authenticator) and refer to your authenticator app's directions for setting up a new account via QR code. Scan the QR code shown on the Add Authenticator App screen, then click Next.

2 - Verify your authenticator app - Enter the 6-digit authentication code from the authenticator app, then click Submit.

2FA recovery (backup) codes

After you've successfully set up 2FA for your account, you will be given a set of 2FA recovery (backup) codes. You'll need these backup codes if you ever lose access to the device you use for 2FA. It is critical to securely store the backup codes.

If you do lose access to the device you use for 2FA, you may enter one of your backup codes on the 2FA security code screen to gain access to your account. Then you should reconfigure the 2FA method for your account.
