Email display issues
The message templates used in Connect are tested across a variety of email clients and computer / mobile device setups to ensure the style and display of your emails is as consistent as possible. However, there may be differences in how your email content displays from device to device.
The emails you send in Connect are styled using an HTML template. Rendering HTML content in emails is fundamentally different than rendering HTML on websites. Different email programs will display the same email content differently. The combination of the recipient's email client (e.g., Gmail, Outlook, Apple mail, etc.) and browser (e.g., Chrome, Edge, Safari, etc.) can impact the email's display.
Specifically, users across the web often report issues with the display of HTML emails in the Outlook email client.
What can I do to get more consistent email display?
Connect message templates are tested to ensure the HTML styling elements are as consistent as possible across devices and browsers. However, if you're concerned about the display of your emails in a particular email client, here are some suggestions:
- Test your messages, then adjust your styling - Try to determine which styling elements do not display as expected in the email client you're concerned about, then adjust your styling habits accordingly. You may want to consider simplifying your message styling, or avoiding a certain styling option altogether (e.g., use a 1- or 2-column layout instead of a 3-column layout).
- Consider the impact - What you see in your email client may be different than what a majority of your message recipients see. Due to the nature of HTML email, getting 100% design consistency in all email clients is not possible.
- Update your email client - If the email client you regularly use seems to struggle with the display of HTML emails, consider updating to the latest software version — or use a different email client altogether.
