What to do if you suspect fraudulent transactions

At eCatholic, we’ve fortified our Donations and Payment forms with multiple security checks in order to stop fraudulent activity before it ever happens. While fraudulent activity is infrequent, if you do see a fraudulent transaction in your website's Payments Center, here’s what you need to do:

1 - Contact eCatholic

If you suspect there has been any fraudulent transactions made through your online giving forms, please call our eCatholic Payments support line at 877-932-1776 ext. 2. We’ll get to work right away investigating the transactions and we will advise you if any additional action is needed.

If you can’t give us a call, send an email to [email protected] and someone from our Payments team will be in touch as soon as possible.

2  - Void any credit/debit or ACH transactions that are not yet settled

If you suspect a fraudulent transaction has occurred, but the transactions has not yet settled and show as approved, you may void that transaction. If you void any suspected fraudulent transactions before contacting eCatholic, be sure to follow up with us so that we can help investigate the suspected transaction further.

3 - DO NOT refund any large, settled transactions

Until you speak with eCatholic, do not refund any large debit/credit or ACH transactions that have already been settled. These transactions will need to be investigated and should not be refunded until you work with us to collect more information.

NOTE: Fraudulent transactions will often appear as error or decline type of transactions in your Payments Center due to our fraud filters that we have in place to combat cardrunners. At no time can your payments data or website be compromised by the cardrunner actions.

If you have any additional questions about how to handle fraudulent transactions on your website, or would like to speak with someone about eCatholic Payments, please email [email protected].
