Maximum recommended dimensions and file sizes for the web

The recommended sizes for images on eCatholic websites are listed below.

  • Image Dimensions: 2000 px on the longest side
  • File Size: 0.5 MB (500 KB)

The maximum image file size approved for upload to an eCatholic website is 20 MB.

Best image file types to use for the web

For regular images:

  • Use a .JPG file type - exported at a quality size of 60-70% of the original image.
    • If you are using Adobe Photoshop to reduce your image file size, export your images using File > Export > Export As... (pictured below). 

For graphics with solid colors:

  • Use a .PNG file type, if no animation is needed (otherwise, use .GIF file type).
  • If your image has a large color palette (256+ colors), use PNG-24. Otherwise, use PNG-8.
