Texting fees

eCatholic Connect customers will soon be able to send text messages to their members by integrating an existing Twilio account. (Twilio is a third-party texting provider.) All SMS billing is managed directly in a customer's Twilio account.

Twilio pricing as of April 2024.

There are three categories of fees associated with A2P 10DLC texting:

  1. One-time Setup fees - These are applied when registering your US A2P Brand and your A2P Use Case the moment they are registered with the Campaign Registry.
  2. Monthly fees - These include an A2P monthly campaign fee as well as the monthly phone number fee charged by Twilio.
  3. Per-message fees - Are charged by carriers for messages sent to users on their networks as well as by Twilio for use of their technology for sending text messages. See Twilio's standard US Messaging pricing to confirm the latest pricing.

For more information on A2P 10DLC texting and campaign registration, see Getting started with text messaging for a full explanation and walkthrough of the registration process.

One-time Setup Fees

Here's a breakdown of the one-time setup fees associated with A2P 10DLC messaging.

  • $44 Brand Registration - This is a one-time registration fee.
    • There are a variety of brand types that can be selected in the registration process, each with a different brand registration fee.
    • eCatholic Connect customers that are registered nonprofits should register as an US A2P Standard Brand ($44) - not Low volume standard - to ensure the organization receives the full pricing and throughput benefits for nonprofits.

At the time of brand registration during 10DLC onboarding, your organization will be automatically vetted in the background to check if the brand info provided matches a registered 501(c)(3) organization in IRS tax exempt records.

A successful vetting is dependent on accurate information being provided about your organization during brand creation. If successful, this will expose Charity / 501(c)(3) Nonprofit as an eligible use case when registering your A2P 10DLC messaging campaign, and a tax exempt status attribute will be applied to your brand information.

  • $15 Campaign Verification - This is a one-time fee assessed at the time of vetting.

Monthly Fees

Here's a breakdown of the monthly fees for sending SMS messages:

  • $1.15 Phone Number - Twilio phone numbers are billed via a monthly recurring charge from the time they are provisioned.
  • $3 / month Recurring Campaign fee - There are a variety of campaign types that can be selected in the A2P 10DLC registration process, each with a different campaign registration fee.
    • The $3/month cost listed here applies to eCatholic Connect customers who have successfully registered a Special: Charity / 501(c)(3) Nonprofit campaign.

Message Fees

These fees are charged by carriers (e.g., AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon) for messages sent to users on their networks. Twilio also charges a per-message fees according to Twilio's standard US Messaging pricing.

  • $0.0079/msg $0.00559/msg Twilio - Price charged by Twilio for a single outbound SMS message. i.e., a message sent to one recipient. A message sent to 100 recipients would incur a $0.56 total message fee from Twilio.
    • If your organization qualifies and is accepted to Twilio's Impact Access Program for nonprofits, you will be eligible for a 25% discount on Twilio's messaging fee, reducing the fee from $0.0079/msg to $0.00559/msg for your organization.
  • $0.003/msg $0.0000/msg Carrier - AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon typically charge a $0.003/msg fee. However, customers that are verified with Twilio as a nonprofit are eligible for reduced carrier fees.
