How to import group members
If you have group members’ names and emails stored elsewhere, you can easily import existing member data into a specific group in Connect to get up and running quickly. Here is how:
1 - Export your group member data as a CSV file
- Go to your existing communication tool or member database and export your group member data as a CSV file.
- The file you import into Connect should contain 4 columns:
- First Name
- Last Name
- Phone (optional).
- Each row should contain data for one member; i.e., one name, one email.
- First Name and Last Name should be separate columns.

2 - Log in to Connect
- Log in to Connect and navigate to the Group you want to import members into:
- Click Groups in the main navigation bar
- Select the group you want to import members into
- Click the Group Members tab
- Click Bulk Add Members next to the Add Member button
3 - Complete the group import workflow
Follow the steps to complete the group import:
- Upload File - Drop your properly-formatted CSV onto the screen. Be sure that your data follows the format listed above; First name, Last Name, Email, Phone (optional) all in separate columns.
- Verify Data - After your file is uploaded, you will see a sample of how your data will look if you proceed with the import.
- IMPORTANT: Make sure the data lands in the appropriate columns and that everything looks correct. Once ready, select the "this data looks correct" checkbox and click Next.
- Confirm & Import - After you’ve verified that your data looks correct, you will see a summary of your import details. The system will indicate the number of records that will be processed as well as any records that will not be processed. If everything looks as you expect, click Add Members.
- If there are records that contain errors (e.g., invalid email address), they will not be included in the import.
- You can click Download errors to get a list of records that will not be processed.
- Import Summary - After your import is complete, you will see a summary screen that details the results. Once finished, click Done.
What happens during the group import process
Existing organization members - Any existing organization members will be subscribed to receive group messages and will be sent a message welcoming them to the group.
- These members will be listed as Joined in the Group Members list.
New organization members - New organization members will be sent a message inviting them to the organization and will be subscribed to group messages when they accept the invitation.
- These members will be listed as Pending in the Group Members list until they accept the organization invite.
