FAQ: eCatholic ID for ChMS

Can I use one eCatholic ID to log in to multiple databases?

Yes! eCatholic ID consolidates all your eCatholic accounts into a single identity. Make sure your user accounts on each database all use the same email address as your eCatholic ID. This will allow you to log in to all with your one eCatholic ID.

I set up an eCatholic ID for my website. Do I need to do it set it up again for the database?

No! Once you set up an eCatholic ID for one product, it can be used to log in to all of your eCatholic products.

Can I have multiple user accounts for the same database?

This is not recommended. It is best to have a single user account with sufficient permissions to do all you need in the ChMS. If you must have multiple user roles, each user role will require using different email addresses and setting up separate eCatholic IDs for each. Remember: a phone number can only be used as the 2FA method for a single eCatholic ID. If you have more than one eCatholic ID, you will need to use an authenticator app as the 2FA method for additional accounts.

I don't have a mobile phone. How can I set up 2FA?

Without a mobile phone for texts or authenticator apps, you will need to add an authenticator extension on to your browser. There are several authenticator apps available for your browser or desktop that don't require a phone.

Here are a few options we liked:

  • For Chrome, Firefox, and Edge browsers: Authenticator extension
  • For Safari browser and Mac desktop: Step Two app and extension

Download and install your selected authenticator app. Then follow these instructions to continue with setup.

What if I lose my phone or get a new phone and cannot access my account?

If you lose access to your second factor authentication method (e.g. authenticator app), you may use your account recovery codes received from your authenticator app to gain access to the account.
The account recovery codes are provided to you after you complete the 2FA setup process for an authenticator app. It is critical for you to securely store your backup codes. (A password manager is a great place to store account recovery codes). Each account recovery code acts as a one-time code that can be used for 2FA in case access to the 2FA device has been lost.
If all admins are unable to access a site, please contact our team for next steps in allowing an official representative of the organization to gain access.

Can multiple people use the same mobile number for 2FA?

No, a unique mobile number can only be leveraged by a single user for receiving 2FA codes. Similarly, each admin must use a unique email address for login. The login email address must be one that the user can personally access.

Will I need to enter a 2FA security code every time I log in?

On the page where you enter your security code, you can check the Remember this device box. Doing this will allow you to skip entering the code for the next 30 days when logging in from that device. Be sure to only do this on devices you trust!

I log into my ChMS with an old email whose inbox I can't access. Will that work with my eCatholic ID?

No, setting up your eCatholic ID requires that you can access the inbox for your login email address. If you are using an outdated email address, you will need to have it updated before setting up your eCatholic ID.

What if I need to give a new staff member access to the database?

When you add a new user to the site, use their own unique email address. They will be invited to set up their eCatholic ID with their email address. You can see those steps here: How to add a new user in ChMS

If the new user is taking the place of someone who left your organization, you should revoke the previous user's access to your database by deleting their account.
