What is a unique viewer?

eCatholic LIVE breaks down viewer analytics into Unique Viewers and Views to provide a comprehensive breakdown of viewership.

1

What is a Unique Viewer?

A Unique Viewer is defined as a unique public IP address for the event or time period specified in a report.

2

What is a View?

A View is defined as any public IP address for the event or time period specified in a report.

For example, let's assume you schedule a live-broadcast from 3pm to 4pm and viewers access at the following times:

  • Viewer with Public IP 8.8.8.8
    • 3:10 pm - 3:15 pm
    • 3:17 pm - 3:25 pm
    • 3:45 pm - 4:02pm
  • Viewer with Public IP 8.8.4.4
    • 3:09 pm - 3:15 pm
The resulting analytics report would contain 2 unique viewers and 4 views, reporting that there are 4 "viewers" is false as there are only 2 unique public IP addresses during the event.

While there are many ways to measure viewership (e.g., Facebook and others only measure "views"), we find that this is the most comprehensive way to report viewership.
