How to embed a Google Translate plugin

If your website has a bilingual audience, embedding a Google Translate plugin is one great option that will allow users to view your website's content in their native language. Follow these steps to embed a Google Translate plugin on your site.

Sign into your Google account

Visit and sign in to your Google account to proceed.

Get the code to create your Google Translate plugin

On the "Website Info" page, enter your domain name in the "Website URL" field, select the original language of your website, then click "Next."

On the "Plugin Settings" page, you can customize the plugin to appear however you'd like. If you have specific languages you'd like to give visitors the option to translate to, select "Specific languages" and check the ones you need. Once you've finished, click "Get Code."

On the "Add Plugin" page, copy the entire code snippet and return to your eCatholic website.

Plug the code snippet into your site

Log in to your eCatholic website and click in either the header or footer textbox.* Click the Source button in the WYSIWYG editor (as shown below) and paste your code in the dialog that appears.

*Don't see a header or footer textbox?

  • Header textbox: Not all of eCatholic's free themes include a header text box. If the theme your website is currently using does not contain a header text box, email to discuss the options.
  • Footer textbox: You may need to click into the Footer Settings to verify that Custom Text is set to On to be able to see the footer textbox.

After adding the plugin code to the source code of the header text box, don't be alarmed if nothing in your header text box immediately changes.

Be sure to Publish the change in the header or footer by clicking the green check mark that appears beneath the Header Settings icon or Footer Settings icon. (These icons appear along the left edge of your site's interface, as illustrated above.) Then, log out of your website (or view your website in a different internet browser) to see the embedded plugin.
