FAQ: eCatholic ID for my website
Can I use one eCatholic ID to log in to multiple websites?
Yes! eCatholic ID consolidates all your eCatholic accounts into a single identity. Make sure your user accounts on each website all use the same email address as your eCatholic ID. This will allow you to log in to all your sites with your one eCatholic ID.
Can I have multiple user accounts for the same website?
This is not recommended. It is best to have a single user account with sufficient permissions to do all you need on your website. If you must have multiple user roles, each user role will require using different email addresses and setting up separate eCatholic IDs for each. Remember: a phone number can only be used as the 2FA method for a single eCatholic ID. If you have more than one eCatholic ID, you will need to use an authenticator app as the 2FA method for additional accounts.
I don't have a mobile phone. How can I set up 2FA?
Without a mobile phone, you cannot use a phone number as your 2FA method since you won't be able to receive a code via text message. However, there are several authenticator apps available for your browser or desktop that don't require a phone.
Here are a few options we liked:
- For Chrome, Firefox, and Edge browsers: Authenticator extension
- For Safari browser and Mac desktop: Step Two app and extension
Download and install your selected authenticator app. Then follow these instructions to continue with setup.
What if I lose my phone or get a new phone and cannot access my account?
Can multiple people use the same mobile number for 2FA?
Will I need to enter a 2FA security code every time I log in?
On the page where you enter your security code, you can check the Remember this device box. Doing this will allow you to skip entering the code for the next 30 days when logging in from that device. Be sure to only do this on devices you trust!
I log into my website with an old email whose inbox I can't access. Will that work with my eCatholic ID?
No, setting up your eCatholic ID requires that you can access the inbox for your login email address. If you are using an outdated email address, use these instructions to update the email address for your website account. Once your website account has an active email address, you can set up your eCatholic ID.
What if I need to give a new staff member access to the website?
If the new user is taking the place of someone who left your organization, you should revoke the previous user's access to your site by deleting their account.
Will I have to choose "Log in with eCatholic ID" every time I log in to my website?
Once you've created your eCatholic ID, you'll need to log in with it moving forward. While there are still other users on your site who have not set up their eCatholic ID, you'll need to click the "Log in with eCatholic ID" button in the login screen to complete your login. However, once all the users on your site have set up their eCatholic ID, that extra click will no longer be necessary.
