Understanding Transaction and Order Statuses
Orders and transactions each carry their own status, and the two lists use different terms. This article explains what each status means and how order and transaction statuses relate to each other.
Order Statuses
Found on the Activity > Orders list and on an individual order's Order Details page. See Viewing Orders and Order Details.
| Status | What It Means |
| Completed |
The order payment processed successfully. Note: This status remains even if the order is later refunded/voided. The Refunded and Net Amount columns reflect the refund. |
| Pending | The order payment is still processing. This will eventually transition to either Completed or Failed. |
| Failed | The order payment behind this order did not go through. The related transaction typically shows a Declined status. |
Transaction Statuses
Found on the Activity > Transactions list and in the Related Transactions section of an order. See Viewing and Filtering Transactions.
| Status | What It Means |
| Approved | The payment or refund was authorized and processed successfully. |
| Declined | The payment attempt was rejected, for example due to insufficient funds or an expired card. |
| Processing | The payment is still processing, and has been neither approved nor declined. |
Transaction Types
Each transaction also has a type:
| Type | What It Means |
| Payment | A charge to the donor's card or bank account. |
| Refund | Money returned to the donor for a previous payment. See Issuing a Refund. |
| Void | The payment was cancelled before any money changed hands. |
How Order and Transaction Statuses Relate
An order and its underlying transaction usually move together. With a Completed order, you’ll find it’s backed by an Approved payment transaction, while a Failed order will be backed by a Declined one. Also, keep in mind that a single order can have more than one related transaction; for example, if the first attempt was declined and a retry went through successfully, or if a refund was issued for items in a completed order.
Note:
A refunded gift does not get its own order status. The order stays Completed, and the refund shows up as its own Refund-type transaction and in the order's Refunded and Net Amount fields.
