Recording Marriages

The goal of this article is to help the end user establish one family record for the newly married couple that includes both spouses (even if one is not Catholic) without creating duplicate records.

Search for member

  1. Start by locating the family of origin of both members.  Make a note of the Family ID numbers.
  2. If a family of origin is not known, you can search for members:
    1. Navigate to Families > Member Explorer and delete the number located in Church ID (See image below). By deleting the Church ID number, this allows you to search the entire diocese for a member.

    2. Enter the last name of the member you are searching for. First names can be entered differently across parishes so it is best to search by last name to find a match

Establish the newly married family record

Once you have identified both records, you can create the new record. Pick one spouse to start the process. What you do next depends on where the spouse's member record is located. Look through Options A-D and identify which next steps you should follow:

A. If the spouse is already established in his or her own separate family within your parish:

  1. Adding Sacraments within a Family Record

B. If the spouse is listed within his or her family of origin do the following:

  1. Creating a new family from an existing family
  2. Adding Sacraments within a Family Record

C. If neither spouse is listed anywhere in the database, you would need to create a new family do the following steps:

  1. Creating a new family in your database
  2. Adding Sacraments within a Family Record

D. If the spouse is listed somewhere else in the diocese database (but not in your database):

  1. Adding a family into your parish from the diocese
  2. Adding Sacraments within a Family Record
