How to create an eCatholic ID for ChMS
Your eCatholic ID is a single eCatholic account, used only by you, which gives you access to your eCatholic Products. It incorporates two factor authentication (2FA) to ensure your account is secure by today's standards. Your eCatholic ID replaces your old ChMS login.

Already have an eCatholic ID?
If you have already created your eCatholic ID as a user of an eCatholic website, you do not need to create another eCatholic ID.
Creating your eCatholic ID account for ChMS
To create your new ID
- Go to chms.ecatholic.com.
Enter your email address.
- Click Continue.
- You’ll want to make sure you use an email address you can directly access.
After submitting your email, a code will be sent to that address which you will need to enter on the next screen to verify you own that email address.
This is the email address you will use to log in to your account in the future.
Verify your email address
- Go to your email inbox and you will find an eCatholic Email Address Verification email. Open the message to retrieve the 8-digit verification code. This code is valid for 30 minutes.
- Enter the verification code into the Verification code field and click Next.
Create a password
- Enter the password you wish to use for your account.
- The password requirements will appear on the screen as you type.
- Press Next button.
Finalize your account details
- As a final step, enter your name and date of birth.
Why ask for your birthday?
The primary reason is to enforce a minimum age of our users for the purposes of safe environment compliance. The date of birth requirement is to ensure minors are not being communicated with via eCatholic products that are able to send electronic communications. Since the eCatholic ID is used by all of our products, they must all comply with this requirement.
- Your account setup is complete.
- Next you will set up your Two-Factor Authentication.
Setting up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
To increase your account security, 2FA is required to access your account. This means you will be prompted to enter an additional one-time code to log in. You can choose to:
- Have the code sent to your mobile number via text message
- Retrieve the code from an authenticator app
Setting up 2FA via SMS text message
- To set up 2FA via SMS text message, click the SMS Text Message button on the Enable 2FA security screen.
- Enter your mobile number.
- Enter a number at which you can reliably receive SMS text messages.
- Then click Next.
- Verify your mobile number.
- You will then receive an 8-digit verification code via text message at the mobile number you just submitted.
- Enter the verification code on the next screen.
- Then click Submit.
Setting up 2FA via authenticator app
- To set up 2FA via authenticator app, click the Authenticator App button on the Enable 2FA security screen.
- Set up your authenticator app.
- Open your authenticator app (e.g., Google Authenticator) and refer to your authenticator app's directions for setting up a new account via QR code.
- Scan the QR code shown on the Add Authenticator App screen.
- Then click Next.
- Verify your authenticator app.
- Enter the 6-digit authentication code from the authenticator app.
- Then click Submit.
2FA recovery (backup) codes
After you've successfully set up 2FA using an authenticator app for your account, you will be given a set of 2FA recovery (backup) codes. You'll need these backup codes if you ever lose access to the device you use for 2FA. You will not receive recovery codes using the SMS Text method.
It is critical to securely store the authenticator app supplied backup codes.
If you do lose access to the device you use for 2FA, you may enter one of your backup codes on the 2FA security code screen to gain access to your account. Then you should reconfigure the 2FA method for your account.
Don't have a mobile phone? Set up 2FA using an Authenticator Extension on your Browser
Without a mobile phone, you will have to use an authenticator extension added to your browser. There are several authenticator apps available for your browser or desktop that don't require a phone.
Here are a few options we liked:
- For Chrome, Firefox, and Edge browsers: Authenticator extension
- For Safari browser and Mac desktop: Step Two app and extension
Download and install your selected authenticator app. Then follow these instructions to continue with setup.

Streamlining your login experience
To make the login process easier on your trusted, personal devices, you may use the following features:
- Remember email: Use this checkbox if you'd like your email address to be automatically populated on the login screen so you don't have to manually enter it each time you log in.
- Remember this device: Use this checkbox to skip 2FA for 30 days so that you can log in with your email & password only. Do not select this if you are logging in from a public or shared device.
